Popcorn Lab

As stated in my last blog, our class is doing different labs. One of the labs was on heat transfer and it involved popping popcorn. We did two experiments to see how popcorn... popped. For the first experiment, my partner and I poured the kernels into a brown paper bag. Next, we put the bag into a microwave and set for 1:30. While in the microwave, the kernels absorbed the heat and expanded. After the timer beeped, the kernels were then white clouds of popcorn. This is an example of heat transfer.
For the next experiment, our mentor poured kernels into an air popper. There was so much heat so that once the kernels absorbed the heat, they couldn't stop popping. This is another example of heat transfer.
Kids, you CAN try this at home.
